I have a late 60s S. Yairi dread that was retopped with a nice Adi to by a very able-but-unnamed-for-political-reasons luthier. Here is a pic of the top bracing he came up with:

A triple X! Interesting! It also has very tall tapered finger braces which are butted at the bottom, a small gap on the upper half.

So now I need to do the neck, the bridge and the finishing. I'm going to get some assistance from a local luthier and use this "restoration" as a learning project.

I sort of hate to call it a restoration as I will be going with a new neck and bridge. The original neck started life at 1 11/16" at the nut. With the sanding it has undergone is is approaching 1 5/8"...far too narrow for me. So this thing is going to end up as a Frankenstein of sorts.

Should be an education, anyway. ;)
